Illustration for Jolien

My client for this project asked me to make an illustration about her personal cultural journey. She grew up in my hometown Urk, but was born in China. To get to know her own birthplace, she traveled to China last year, and came back with a huge collection of pictures and drawings.

She then asked me to make an illustration, of a village that represents both places. We mixed the Dutch fishing village atmosphere with the Chinese culture. The result is a warm and welcoming town, filled with small secrets and nuances that describe my client.

These kind of commissions are my favourite, and I’m really happy with the result! I framed it for her, so it can be added on the living room wall without the hassle!
